Located just 65 paces from Texas’ oldest dancehall, Gruene Hall, on the corner of Gruene Road and the Guadalupe River, Cantina del Rio is the newest casual dining establishment in the historic district of Gruene.
The building was originally constructed in Martindale, Texas in the early 1900’s and moved to Gruene in 1983. Formerly the Guadalupe Smoked Meat Company and Janie’s Table, the Cantina was fashioned after a south Texas ice house and opened in June 2010 by the owners of the neighboring Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar and Mozie’s.
Visitors to the Cantina can take in all the sights and sounds of the historic district from the shaded deck while sipping an ice cold margarita (with real tequila!), sangria or ice cold beer between shops, shows at the Hall or after a relaxing float on the river. In the cooler months sit indoors or on the cozy enclosed deck in the trees.
The menu features a wide variety of tacos, enchiladas and fajitas, as well as specialty Texas burgers. Perfect for a quick lunch with a friend or dinner with the family.
All food and drink items are very reasonably priced and delicious! Be sure to check out the happy hour specials. Come on in and you’ll be glad you did!
